Callie's work is based upon a continuing theme seen in a majority of her pieces. Her theme is based upon the concept of the interconnection between details we find in nature and in the body, along with how this interconnection can play a part in healing. When one looks at the brain on a microscopic level and notes the structure of a neuron, there are familiar patterns present. For example, dendrites and axon terminals resembles branches on a tree. Blood vessels and bronchioles in the lungs also have a similar resemblance. There is a fusion of these biological make-ups represented in the hand-sawed designs in the metal and wood pieces she creates. The colored, patinaed look seen on some of the pieces represents character, growth, and resilience.
